Multi-Flu Hits the Shelves
One Bahamian distribution company is making revolutionary changes to the way it operates in order to adapt to the economy and the introduction of VAT tax – challenges which have caused Bahamian consumers to leave more products on the shelves or choose more affordable options.

CDM Corporate Group (formerly Commonwealth Drugs & Medical Supplies) is no longer just distributing products; it is working with manufacturers to produce goods that are of the same or better quality as the leading brands, but at a fraction of the cost.  This way, the company can maintain expected sales targets, whilst ensuring that the products their customers need can still be accessible and affordable to them.

This week, expect to see a new product to battle cold and flu symptoms on the shelves – Multi-Flu.  This product was developed by internationally certified and accredited manufacturers that specialize in powders for hot mixes and effervescent tablets.  It was not developed without the input of Bahamian, Caribbean and Latin American partners, who represent the market that the product would be introduced to.
Multi-Flu is the second product to be introduced to the Bahamian market by CDM.  The company launched C-Fizz Effeverscent tablets recently.  C-Fizz provides 1,000 mg of Vitamin C and is much more affordable than the leading brand.  CDM is the exclusive distributor of these products, which are marketed by Puerto Rico Pharmaceuticals company (PRP).

Multi-Flu comes in day and night time formulas to provide soothing relief of cold and flu symptoms, as well as sinus congestion related to cold and flus.  A box of Night Time contains six sachets of honey lemon infused with white tea and chamomile flavors.  The product is added to hot water and stirred for best results.  A box of Day Time (non-drowsy) contains six sachets of green tea and honey lemon flavors.  The price retails at about $6.78, whereas Thera Flu Hot Mix retails at about $10.56.

Alicia Smith, CDM Sales Representative, was afforded the opportunity to make contributions to the development of these products.  She leaned on years of experience in the market, working with pharmacies and other stores throughout the Bahamas, and tied it in with what customers are calling for in today’s financial climate.  Smith worked with product packaging and flavor recommendations.  Ultimately, her recommendations were accepted over other contributions made by individuals within the region.

Smith, along with other Bahamian associates, made suggestions which were received, resulting in the final packaging and flavoring for the product.  The package was designed considering the limited shelf space in community pharmacies, while delivering the same amount of product the competitor would offer.

“The goal is to bring a world-class product to the market at the most affordable prices to consumers in the region,” Smith said.
PRP’s Vice President of Business Development, Dan Mukamal, is excited about the launch of Multi-Flu in The Bahamas.

“Multi-Flu is a major step for the company (PRP) towards the development of a range of over-the-counter products that are affordable and will increase access for all persons within the Caribbean and Central American region,” he said.
Multi-Flu comes in two formulations.  The daytime is a non-drowsy formula, delivering 500mg of Acetaminophen (pain reliever/ fever reducer), as well as a cough suppressant and decongestant.  The night time formula offers 650mg of Acetaminophen along with medicines which are: antihistamine, cough suppressant, sleep inducer, treatment for motion sickness, and a decongestant for nasal and sinus congestion.

CDM is currently working to place Multi-Flu in all 190 of the stores that the company currently services, including pharmacies, service stations, mom and pop shops and major chain stores throughout The Bahamas, allowing availability to consumers wherever and whenever they need it.

Multi-Flu should not be given to children under age 4.  Ages 4-12, consult a physician.  Parents seeking relief for children under four, can ask their Pediatrician about another product called Carbec, which is also a product from PRP.

C Fizz Supports Striker's Boxing Club

The Strikers Boxing Club is beaming as some of its athletes headed off for the Dominican Republic this week to represent The Bahamas in the Independence Cup.

The Independence Cup, held in the Dominican Republic, brings together trained boxers from throughout the region for a week of competition.  The highly competitive event is seen as a precursor to the big competition this year - 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

Noting the Strikers tenacity in continuously producing quality young athletes to represent the country on an international scale, Alicia Smith thought it fitting to reward the club.

Smith, Sales & Marketing Pharmaceutical representative for CDM Group (Commonwealth Drugs & Medical Supplies), provided Striker's Boxing Club with a basket filled with C-Fizz, just in time for their trip to the DR.

C-Fizz is an effervescent tablet that provides 1,000 mg of Vitamin C with each use.  Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid or L-ascorbate, is an essential vitamin to the human body.  It has been touted as one of the safest and most important vitamins you could take on a daily basis. It is a water-soluble vitamin; therefore it will remain useful to the body for up to 24 hours.

"C-Fizz will help to boost our athlete's immune systems while helping them recover from intense training - important aspects of giving your best performance," said Smith.

"CDM is committed to providing products for national consumption, which are of great quality and affordably priced."

C-Fizz comes in a convenient two-tube package, which allows your effervescent tablets to stay fresh longer, until ready for use.

Striker's Club coachesArlene Rogers and Kayla Johnson thanked CDM for the gift and words of encouragement, noting that corporate support goes a long way in assisting athletes in their training and competition, which can be expensive undertakings.

Bahamian athletes have been making their mark in the sport, and the club is just one of many boxing clubs with high aspirations of producing world-class athletes for the country.

ANCIENT SACRED HAIR OIL GETS NEW COMEBACK WITH ORS

Protective hair styling has become a major trend in The Bahamas.  From braids, to carefully treated hair under wig caps, to the french braid, protective styles are everywhere as Bahamian women become more conscious about protecting their crowns.

Natural hair styles can be seen everywhere, and more salons are offering services geared towards natural hair.  It's obvious that hair care has become an even bigger deal and is evolving to meet the demands of the women who seek longer, healthier tresses.

The CDM group (Commonwealth Drugs & Medical Supplies) is meeting this demand by consistently bringing top hair care products to customers all over the archipelago, and the latest products hit the shelves less than a month ago.

CDM teamed up with ORS (Organic Root Stimulator) to introduce Monoi oil to the Bahamian market as the latest addition to the ORS brand.

For centuries, monoi oil has been utilized by natives of Polynesia to achieve extremely strong yet silky and shiny hair.  For decades, monoi oil has been used by the elite who could afford a bottle of the sacred oil.  But today, ORS has made it possible for this precious oil recipe to be shared with the everyday woman.

Monoi oil is considered the sacred oil of the Polynesians and was traditionally used by priests to anoint newborns or purify objects, according to the Monoi Institute.  It is cultivated by soaking Tiare Tahiti blossoms (an exotic gardenia) in refined Tahitian coconut oil.  This creates a light and fragrant oil with immense soothing and moisturizing properties.

This ancient oil recipe has been deemed "unparalled in its natural power to heal and repair" according to hair experts.  Combining the essential fatty acids of coconut with the enticing scent of gardenia has led many to dub it: "coconut oil's sexier cousin".

It is not just used for the hair, but also for the skin and bath, as women all over the world have trusted its properties for healing and moisturizing.

Tabatha Porter, sales & marketing manager for the CDM group is excited about the newest item to join the CDM family of products.  The company broadened its base more than a decade ago, going from pharmaceuticals to an entire range of biomedical products as well as hair care products.

"Our pharmaceuticals help with the body, and just as medicines are for the body, we wanted to do the same thing with the hair, offering products that would make the hair healthy and strong," said Mrs. Porter.

The beauty division of CDM offers many popular hair care and make up lines for women including Black Opal Beauty; Avlon; ORS; Rubykiss cosmetics; Afam concepts and Namaste laboratories.

The company will be officially launching the Monoil Oil from ORS in the stores December 8 - 12.  During that week, international experts from ORS will be in town for a series of visits to some of the main beauty supply chain stores in New Providence.

The hair care experts will conduct tridoscope sessions that will allow them to test customers' hair, and properly advise them on how to treat and protect it.

"Lots of ladies are using weave or are over processing their hair," Porter pointed out.  "We want to assist them in getting the right advice and utilizing the products that will give them the results they are looking for."

ORS states: "Monoi oil is an authentic, quality hair care line that "stops the cycle of breakage with healthy omega 3s and more than six antioxidants to sustain fiber integrity in natural and relaxed hair.  The scent is an exotic Tahitian coconut oil and gardenia flowers.  It is invigorating and offers a sense of aromatherapy without overpowering."
